When you look under the car there is some sort of covering that runs the length of the car, i dont even know what kind of material it is, but is coming off because it looks like its really easy to rip where it gets bolted on to the frame.. what is it and how important is it.. doesnt even look like it was put together to withstand much..

If it is the heat shield thas hangin off, i wouldnt let it fall off completley coz its probably loads to replace it n that exhaust gets pretty hot. C if u can re-attach it. Other than that it'll probably just rattle round a lot on top of ur exhaust...
ziptie could melt...
If it's right above the exhaust and looks metalic, that's the heatshield. It's job is to protect the rest of the body from absorbing the heat from the exhaust pipe.
If it's the heatshield, see if you can use a big washer on the bolts you were talking about to help hold it together. If not, try zipties I guess... but you don't want your car to always smell like burning plastic do you?
hes doesnt hav an M3. i was thinking the aero piece or any piece like that that is protection for the underside of your car, except those dont usually run the length of the car
