What Is This Part

I was doing some work removing a 10 disk changer, so i had the bottom of the dash apart. When I went to put it back up this part was sitting on the dash piece. I don't remember it falling and guess i just did not notice it when i took the dash down. Anyone tell me what it is? I know that I did not unscrew it and I really did not do much under there at all except for pulling a couple of wires and putting a fuse box back in place that had fallen down.

my bro replaced his stereo last weekend and he asked the same thing with that part. i'm almost 100 percent sure its the same piece. except he has a 5 series. but anyways, on his, it held some kind of relay looking thing down inside the dash.

looks like some kind of a braket!! i guess if your not having problems with out it in, then leave it out.. but make sure you hold onto it!
