yah, it's a regulator of some sort for the rear window defrosters. Probably a coil to step up the voltage enough so that the heater elements will actually get hot.

But I may be putting a home brew nav type system or somethin in my car.. .but it would need to be passenger operated or something... hard to say... if i come up with something i will post here.
It's a little camera BMW uses to see what happens in the back seat. When you take it in for service they upload it to their computers in the shop. And when they leave they watch the videos. This may answer the reason why the techs point and giggle when you walk into the dealership.
