Hello everyone, need to get some new headlamps. Whats the difference with the 4 door headlamps and ther Compacts?

Aren't they the same? The reason is because I can only find some Angel eyes for the 4 door. I have 4 door clear indicators, so I'm thinking the headlamps are the same?

Many many thanks in advance,

Matt

I believe all E36's use the same headlights.

NO NO NO.........carefull Matt, the compact has US style headlamps in that it uses reflector lamps and 900X series bulbs (not very good really) the rest of the range use ellipsoid headlamps for dip and reflector for main, a much better set up.
Do as I did and convert to the ellipsoid versions, physically they will straight swap, but you need to change the wiring socket on the loom at the headlamp each side, just go to a breakers and pick up the small section of loom that plugs in to the ellipsoid type headlamp (large bayonet fixing plug) and replace existing compact sockets (2 each side and sidelight) with the new versions, then just bolt in the ellipsoid headlamps and see the difference!
It a real worth while mod.

Best regards David

My mistake, there are US spec and Euro spec headlights. But they should be a universal fit across all E36's.

See, theres one of my headlamps. The standard ones use ellipisoid lamp alongside the conventional lamp.

But the Compact uses just 2 normal lamps as you can see.

You learn something new everyday.

Also - the Compact lamps uses about 3 plugs but the saloon version uses a fat multiplug. :nana
