What Exactly Is The Fan Delete Mod?

I see people talking about it. I obviously tried searching but it always comes up with some sort of error, I don't know if its disabled or whatnot.

The fan delete mod removes the factory fan from your car. Since the fan spins with rotation of the engine, extra parastatic drag is created and you lose a bit of horsepower. If you remove the fan, then you engine will rev a bit more freely and you will probably gain a few extra ponies (I believe 6-8 in the writeup link below)

The mod itself (see link again) Talks about completely removing the fan, and using lower temp thermostats and aux. fan switches to compensate for loss of cooling ability.

The other way to go is to skip changing thermos and fan switches and just installing an electric fan in its place.

I wouldn't exactly say FREE. Because it is recomended that you take certain precaustions to keep your car from overheating such as: Red Line Water Wetter, new thermostat, new fan switch, and some other small things. So yea it is cheap but remember your only getting 6-8 ponies which is well worth it but still isn't fantastic

Don't just go and pull your fan and not follow the rest of recommendations.

Yes the kit is $90... which is arguabbly the cheapest bang for buck mod you can do to you car. (right up there with the Cosmo CAI IMHO)

Since its fall you may not overheat your car, but the first warm day of spring.... I don't want to be there to see it

I was able to 'justify' the purchase of the proper equipment for this mod....
1.. I needed to change my coolant anyways.... hence the water wetter
2. I need to swap out my water pump for the metal impeller (might as well change the thermostat too)

so as far as I am concerned, I spent $30 (price of the fan switch) to 'pay' for this mod.

If you can find a cooler thermostat that is 75C or lower, then you don't need the fan switch. I did the fan delete mod with a 75C thermostat and water wetter only and my car is fine.

Yeah I will do the precautions, I live in wisconsin, but on Summer days its possible to go up to 80 or 90 (rarely).

If you compare this to something like pullies, costing around 250$ and you only get about 8hp, this is a great deal.

FYI I dont even own a Bimmer yet, I'm in the process of putting my car for sale then looking for a 96' 328.

i have UUC pulleys and the fan delete mod and i noticed a bigger gain with the pulleys. I paid 175 shipped for the pulleys and the results were worth it. The fan delete mod works great in 1st gear at a rolling start at about 3000rpm.
