What engine can I swap with my 318i

Hi Guys;

I planning to have an engine upgrade-swap soon, however I dont know what engine I can best use with my e36, M43 318i automatic.

some suggest M3. a friend with a car like mine, though manual, replaced his with Z3.

will a 320 fit in? I want to do the least modification, a best plug and play engine will do,

thanks in advance.

You are looking at cars and not engines matey.... Go for an M52 engine - Straight six 2.8 ... Drop it in and maybe your next issue might be the prop matching lol - Change the flange if you need to...
Get a better rear diff too!!

Ooops maybe a gearbox too...

Sorry, by this I meant don't be vehicle specific, use engine ID codes like M50, M52 Etc

If your not a BMW Purest!

If you don't care what company the motor comes from look into dropping i 1jz in there if it is bang for the buck you looking for. I have been looking at 2jz's myself.

You will need a complete M52 engine, the DME from said engine, and the wiring harness from said engine.

Now, the transmissions used for the 318 and the 328 were different because the blocks were different. You *may* need to swap out the transmission as well. If you got both the VIN from your car, and the VIN from the donor car I could pull the factory build sheet and see what transmission came in which car.
