I am looking to buy a 1995 to 1999, 325 When i read the ads I see all these letters
eg. 325is, 328ix, etc

i used to denote injection, maybe it still does. Specifically I dunno what s is, but it's on the slightly upscale models. x is for all wheel drive models
wtf? iS is on the e30 also bubs! i have one...well the iS is teh model under the m spec one...such as the m3 the ix is the all wheel drive one, the E is the economy model...

i = normal sedan or coupe with injection
e = eta, economey
iX = all wheel drive
iC = convertible
Ci = coupe or sport version for E46.

what spiff wrote is good enough for someone who is just learning and doesnt want to to have to memorize all the screwy model designations bmw has done in the past. since your just looking at e36's you'll only run into 'i','is', and 'ti.' in the US, cabrio's and sedans are badged with just an 'i', coupes 'is', and hatchback's 'ti', but this does not apply to the other 3series generations. i'm sure if you use the search function you'll find plenty of info on e36's 95-99.

Great thank-you. When looking at ads I can now understand what I am looking at and why the prices vary so much for the same year.
