What did you pay for your new clutch?

I just talked my buddy into buying a 1997 318i with 129k miles, but the clutch is definitely slipping. I called my shop today and they wanted $230 for a Saches clutch and $552 for six hours of labor. I called another shop and they wanted way more. Is this the best I am going to find or is it safe to call a non-bmw mechanic? What did you guys pay for your new clutches?

My clutch was a bit pricer ($500ish) because of it's ability to hold more torque, but my labor cost was nearly the same I got a really good local BMW only dealership/shop to put mine in with a new flywheel for around $500.

If the clutch has been slipping for awhile I would begin to worry about the health of the flywheel. For safety (and performance) measures I put in a new flywheel.

Thats about the best you are going to find, trust me i have done a clutch install before..it's not fun...

Don't forget the flywheel too, you should replace that too as you can NOT have them turned because BMW's flywheels have a hardened surface on them so they CAN NOT be lathed....

yep..all depends on driver...but that sounds about right...somehow by the grace of god mine lasted 300k miles... but that is a bit more on the rare side

Yeah it depends on the driver ..... the 6 was replace Around 200k according to the Mechanic ....
