I recently noticed it. When I come to work or home and shut the engine off and its quiet outside - you can hear some quiet buzz. It sounds like an electrical buzz and it looks like it coming from climate control area.
At first I though it has something to do with 15 minute timer that allows you to operate windows once you turn the car off, but then I opened and closed door and this small buzz was still heard, climate control was turnd on and off and still sound is there.
Any body has any ideas? Its 96 328is if it matters.
i have the same thing , i cannot remember exactly what it is , some sort of fan that cools something or along those lines. i do know that its common and a normal thing.
How long have you had your ride? Did you do any recent mods?
Any techs out there? Anything in the owner's manual?
How long does it stay on? Maybe it's some kinda filter? used
I have another car that turns on a fan in the engine compartment but not in the interior.

The operative word is "recently".
It may be a normal sound but since bimerok hasn't heard it before, it's not normal for him(her).
There's no downside to stopping by the dealer or mechanic to find out exactly what it is, why it wasn't heard before and what is causing it to work now as opposed to when he(she) first bought the car.

No, no mods on my car. (Yet)
I used recently may be in a wrong place .. cause i just got my car 3 weeks ago.
And start noticing it, because i now come home late, and its quiet on streets. thats why i realy noticed that sound. Its not loud at all - May be even a little cooling fan sound as some one mentioned above...
