Part number on "thing"- 5147 8 132 686
I looked and did searches on the internet- and here- everything but as the dealer.
Here is a picture- last I remember it fit in the trunk--

call the dealer and ask to speak to parts depot.
Tell them you have this strange piece of plastic with a part number on it, and "would you be a sweet guy and look up what this thing is?" They have computers back there to do this.
Use a sweet convincing voice if the dude's busy. 99% of guys will bend over backwards in the telphone to help a female voice on the other line.

oh yah: I have no clue what that is... and I've ripped apart my trunk multiple times trying to fix my freaking tail light problems.

It's the CD changer mount in the trunk.

Its actually not part of the mount, but a holder for a spare CD cartridge.

Ok- So I figured out how it fits in there, but look at this picture. It looks like something should go from this part the opening above the taillight cover. I already tried to fit my CD Changer back it it but it doesn't work. I looked at some other BMW (95-96 325i) and found that the way they attached the CD changer is through a mounted metal bracket that then fits to the bracket attached to the changer- sorry that was confusing I don't have a pix- Anyway, whats up with this??
