What Is this?

Do you know what the following items are/for? They are on my 1992 BMW 325i.

1. There is a black toggle switch under the dash on the left side of the driver side inside the car. It is more toward the driver not the hood.

2. Under my car in the engine compartment, just behind the cars left fog light there is a two or three strand wire hanging down. On the end of it is a yellow plastic connector which houses a short 3 inch metal rod. The rod is approximately 1/4 inch thick and is rounded on its free end. It looks to be my thermometer, but I dont know for sure.

By the way, where can I get an original owners manual for my car? Besides E-Bay or the dealer!

Wires sound like they are for the optional BMW alarm...

the switch could be the valet switch for the alarm or was for an alarm or other accessory of some kind. perhaps remote on for an amp or switch for some (god i hope not) Neons , etc..

The rod sounds like the thermometer...mine is located on the opposite side in the brake air duct though...
