Whaa? Engine pinging?

My ti just turned over 150,000 miles and the engine has now begun to ping. I thought BMW had some sort of anti ping device? Maybe not? What exactly is engine ping, what causes it, and is there a remedy? This car is falling apart left and right now. I'm so sad :[ Help is much appreciated!

I guess. I thought people called it engine ping. It only happens at low rpms as far as I can tell. Whats wrong with my lifters?

My car does the same thing, 93 BMW 325i. Seems to do it more when its really hot outside. Clicks alot at low rpms when beginning to increase engine speed. Have you tried a higher octane gas?

Do lifters on a BMW need adjusting from time to time, Anyone know anything on this?

Thanks!
Danny

Whoa, hella old thread. I sold that car two months ago and got me a 2000 328i. I suggest you do the same :]

And as far as higher octane gas... I don't know. I always ran Plus in that car and it never repayed me.
