Weird Thing Happening!

HI, I HAVE A E36 1995 325is SOMETIMES WHEN I'M DRIVING AND I'M ON GEAR, WHEN I STEP ON THE CLUTCH OR WHEN I GO TO NEUTRAL TO SLOW DOWN OR TO STOP, THE ENGINE WOULD GO BACK AND FORT TO 300 AND 1000 RPM A FEW TIMES THEN IT WILL GO TO THE NORMAL IDLE RPM. AND SOMETIMES THE CAR WONT START, I HAVE TO TRY IT AGAIN FOR ABOUT 3-6 TIMES BEFORE THE CAR STARTS. BUT WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR IT SEEMS NORMAL UNLESS SOMETIMES THE RPM WOULD GO BACK AND FORT TO 300 AND 1000 RPM WHEN I GO TO NEUTRAL THEN IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL IDLE RPM. ANY IDEAS WHAT IS CAUSING THAT? I'M A FIRST TIME BMW OWNER SO I REALLY DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT. PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT. THANK YOU SO MUCH

I dont think its anything to do with the gearbox, take a look at all your air intake pipes for leaks, then I would go for the MAF.

I agree, also could be a cracked hose on the ICV ( idle control valve ) there is a y splitter hose that can be prone to perishing

same thing almost happined to me cleand icv and maf and presto no more problamo! try it out

and if you can turn the cap lock of that would be great to i agree on the vacuum leak there one of the most common issues with BMW's...
