-Weird sound from the rear end. *Not sure*. - BMW Forum

I was driving back home. It was night time and I didn’t switch on the AC. My two rear speakers make some “Popping sound” and I know it needs replacing since its crack. It’s an OEM Nokia speaker.

I was playing a loud music. The popping sound from the speaker is unnoticeable. Suddenly there was a loud noise. I can’t describe where the noise came from but it’s like this “ TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT ”. I thought at first it was the music but it’s getting louder and off the radio and stop at the bus stop. The sound appears for 10 seconds and gone like that. Then I drive it again without switching on the radio. It’s all ok till I reach home. Felling not satisfied I drive another 15 minutes at the freeway at 120km/hr and all seems fine. All ok!! Make a U turn and switch on the radio and I can only hear a slight “popping sound” like I always hear.

So can anybody tell me what’s gone wrong here? Is it the speakers?

Use your radio's fader function to shift all the sound up to the front speakers see if the popping stops. It could very well just be a blown rear speaker(s). The stock ones suck anyway.
Or if you still have the stock head unit in the dash it could be causing the popping too. The only thing worse than the stock speakers is the stock C33 head unit.

My friend shift all sound up to the front and the popping sound is gone but my dad shift it back and forgot how to shift it back. LOL- My head unit is a Sony Tripod but all the speakers are OEM Nokia. I will change it soon and plan to install an amplifier, replace the OEM CD changer (Not working) and mp3 modulator.

I will try to shift the sound to the front. The popping sound is not very loud though. That’s why I’m still wondering the mystery of that loud “TAT TAT TAT “sound. Why it makes so loud noise like something is very lose..

There should be a factory amp back there in the trunk already. Depending on who put the Sony headunit in and if they powered the amp. I would install some new rear speakers and see if the problem goes away. I'm not familiar with the Sony "Tripod" line of stereos so I can't help there.
