Weird Brake Problem '94 318is

'94 318is-I live in Los Angeles. I bought the car 3months ago with no problems until yesterday morning. It rained the other day (first time since I bought the car) When I I brake for the first couple of times (first thing in the morning) the car groans and the brakes grind very loud, almost as if I need new pads--what is weird is when the car warms up--everything is fine and it disappears--then the next morning it starts up again--I feel it has something to do with the humidity becauise it has been raining the last few days. Any ideas? Brakes? Master cylinder? Brake pads? Brake fluid? What is weitrd is that when the car warms up those symptoms disappear.

Almost sounds like a thin film of rust forming on the rotor. After a few times of applying the brakes the rust is rubbed off and your good to go. Thats happened to mine and would make sense from your description that it only happens during rain but thats just my idea..

That was my guess too :wink

Before you drive off next morning shine a torch (flash light) on the discs (rotors) through the wheels & see if the discs are shiny or have a thin layer of rust on them.

Do 318is have rear disc brakes too?

I seriously doubt if "flash rust" would cause break squealing....

The rotors do not seem rusty, but they do not have a brilliant shine either. The wierd thing is I have covered parking so i think if anyhthing it is the humid air. But it happened again this morning (overcast humid a little rain)--grinding and squeeking for the first couple of brake pumps, and then smooth sailing--is there anything I can do if it is rust?
