water pump??? - BMW Forum

i recently started noticing that my temp gauge has been running extremely high, but it is only when i am in park or at a stop as soon as i start driving it will go back down. a freind who also has a bimmer said it was the water pump. any ideas??? please help before i blow a head gasket!!!!

its an auto so it doesnt have a clutch but the fan from wat i can tell is fine

I don't mean a clutch as in drive train; the fan is clutched on by a thermostat as needed. When the clutch system is worn, the fan can't run and you will heat up while standing.

Check both fans: the electric auxiliary fan (most likely the culprit) and the engine-driven viscous clutch fan. A very quick check for the aux fan is whether it comes on when you turn on the A/C (it should). The engine-driven fan should turn with some resistance if you try to spin it by hand (with the engine off!) -- if it spins freely, it needs to be replaced.
