92's are known to have a bit more problems than the later years. while it may seem great because the deal is in front of you, you may want to shop around a bit more.
You didnt really give us much info on the car so our opinions are just that, as well as guesses based on few details.
HAVE IT THUROUGHLY CHECKED FOR ALL PROBLEMS AT A GOOD EUROPEAN SHOP!!!!!!!!!! thats the most important thing!!!! then tell us what they said and get a car history report from carfax.
well help when we can, but we need, AND YOU NEED to get all the info about the cars condition before you decide to buy it. these cars better than most.....when they have been taken care of properly. but if they have not,,,,then they are money pit$$$$$!!!!
I just bought a 92 325is. I payed 6grand for the thing! More out of frustration than anything. I had been looking for an e36 225, 328, or 330 for over a month... Im out here on the east coast and in the PA-NJ area all the cars are full of rust. Looked at a bunch of trash for weeks and couldnt even find anything worth buying let alone something they didnt want an arm and a leg for... I had to have the 2door stick and it couldnt be red or white. I finally found this one down in Maryland. They dont use salt on the roads down there... just sand so the body is in great shape. No rust and only 3 dings iv found. Good paint. This guy who has it hung the M3 bumpers on it and did a nice job... they actually fit and look correct. The interior is in incredible shape... The guy must have condisioned the leather every day. . Still soft smooth and unfaded. The strange thing is the head liner is down right horrible. Ripped all up hanging off the corners... staples in it... I thought for sure the sun roof leaked but hit rained like hell last night and it dry... Anyway
I havent had the car up in the air yet but some piece of rubber in the rear end must be just about dead cause she has a thud noise if you shift 1st to 2nd quick. IF ya granny shift her shes smooth and trim but 4500 into 2nd results in something smacking the bottom of the car under the trunk. Anyone know from experience what i should check out first? Could it be a cv joint? or is it just what ever piece of rubber floats the rear end
Mine has a *slight thud* when engaging 1st gear from a stop. To help make it go away I replaced the Guibo(Flex disc on driveshaft). It got better after doing that. I have heard a slight thud is normal as well. But worse case scenario is that you can have rear sub-frame failure. 92 & 93 E36's are prone to this. In 94, BMW added reinforced metal plates to strenghten this area. The rear sub-frame failure usually occurs on lowered, tracked E36's with bigger wheels but not always. i don't want to scare you here but it can be a possiblity
Hey thanx alot for the heads up! Does the frame crack or is there a weld that fails... Where does it usually happen? any idea? Im fairly confident that its just old rubber and iv been told a number of times it always makes a thud just not that loud. Im gonna go ahead and get the whole poly urethane kit figuring its all gotta be getting old. All the body mounts, control arms, motor/trans mount and driveshaft/ rear end bushings... I dont really wanna shell out the $1000 for fully adjustable shocks but short of them i was wondering what was recommended for this thing (1992 325is + lots of m3 stuff...)
I also am suspicious of the hear core... when you first turn the heat on it smells kinda sweet... cant say i definitively smell anti freeze but theres a hint... like i said just a lil sweet smell. After 30-40 min of full heat the windows start to fog... I have found a place thats got the OEM for $150... Im used to American cars where the heater core is like 25 bucks... 150 really want i gotta spend? and i know its about 2 miles deep into that dash but anyone got any tips to make the swap come in under 20 hours of cussing? Thanx again
Na not yet. my digi cam got dropped but i wanna take pics right away before i do anything so i guess ill have to drag the scanner out I really like the lamps ya got on yours Cruzin Is that just bulbs or is it a whole fixture?
