not sure it would work, but if it does, that would be a hellasweet conversion

AMG can't build an NA engine that can compete with M engines, so they stick in a supercharger and say their cars are faster. BMW could simply do the same, but they don't out of principle.

People have put in the LS1(corvette, camero, firebird engine) and the 2jz(i believe, supra engine) in a E36. The Supra engine swap had different hp options too and the top one was above 700hp.

I think with the v12 is about the same because the I6 is a iron block.

a v12 in a e36 is just an all around bad idea. its like having two iron block i6's in the front of the car. besides that you'd need alot of mods to your front subframe and possible the frame rails and def. to the bumper and supports. the 750&850 positioned the v12 between the front wheels (somewhat akin to the z8's "front midship layout") just to reduce polar moment of inertia and to alleviate major understeer issues if the thing were to be dangling out front. a v12 3series would be one fast car but dont expect on turning much.

actually i re-read your post and there is someone who put the 540 engine into a e30 chasis. it was in eurotuner a whiles back. it was pretty much a chopped up motor mount and custom metal work deal. needed slim core radiator and electric fans and was a hella tight fit but the shop that did that conversion might be able to help you out a little. if youre interested you should contact eurotuner for some info.

V12 in e34

No idea. Weight balance would indeed be a bitch but I dont think you are doign this for efficiency or handling.

I believe Alpina actually manufactured a BMW V8-powered 3 series in the 90's in Germany and sold it throughout Europe. I think it was called the B3.5, or something like that. Anyway, the V8 swap is a much more realistic idea, but if you were to get your hands on a motor from the new M5, and had a whole lot of cash, the V10 would definitely look very good in a 3 series. You are going to have to upgrade the suspension and beef up every spot where it and any subframe bits mount, plus you will be needing some much better brakes. Custom valved shocks and some uprated springs in the front would probably help, but you would also have to rewire the entire front end of the car. Try a search for "BMW E36 V8 swap" on Google or Yahoo. Let us know what you find too, as I'm sure there are a lot of people who are interested in the feasability of this swap.
Cheers from Iraq,
-Tim
