Looking for some help/advice. I'm close to buying a 328is that has stock 15" wheels (15 spoke) that I'll want to upgrade to probably 17" wheels.
1. The current 15's have brand new tires on them, so the seller is considering that in the price. My question to everyone is how tough will it be to get some cash for the 15's (with new tires) to put towards my new wheels? I imagine many of you have dealt with selling your old rims. Is there any market for 15's? The two on the passenger side have a bit of curb rash.
2. Plus, any advice on where to buy new wheels and what to consider?

15's are worth almost nothing, you would be lucky to get 200 most likely.
I dont see why the seller would consider 15 inch tires as a sale point, you can get very good 15 inch tires for around 200 bucks.. so if hes jacking the price up any more than 100 bucks.. thats stupid.
Those 15's will be worth more to you as spares, than they would be to sell them.
it's not that owner is jackin up the price - it's just that she bought new tires 2 months ago not realizing she was going to sell the car. she paid $325 for the tires. obviously she thinks the car is worth more with new tires vs. bald. so i'm just trying to figure if i can recoup some some money by selling the rims and tires so i can get some rims i like without swallowing the whole cost.
snow tires aren't a bad idea even though i live in CA, say for the mountains, but the new tires on the car aren't snow tires anyway, and plus i don't have room or desire to store extra rims
but now that you mention it, if you need to use chains in heavy snow, does it matter what kind of tires or rims you have on? will chains damage rims? do you need snow tires underneath?
