Would you purchase a computer chip off of Ebay? I did a quick glance and I see chips ranging from $8 to $200 (I'm sure theres a chip on there for $800, I didn't look too hard)
I own a 1996 328is auto and I wanted to look into purchasing a chip. Any links or suggestions, reliable name-brands?

I can't say that I would... but I've used procarparts.com and they're very reliable.
i would go for a supercharger rather than a chip to be honest
have seen some priced around the £80-100 mark, and will have a garanteed massive effect on your 0-60 and top speed if you get a good one.
but obviously a supercharger will age the engine slighty quicker

how could you possibly compare a super charger with a chip?? i don't believe they could ever be comparable!!
with a 96 328 u have an obdII under your hood, meaning u need to buy a shark injector..

Like everyone says, you can't chip it. OBD II must be reprogrammed. I like Jim Conforti stuff, though there are other ones out there.

I'd like to know where you can purchase a supercharger for 80 to 100 pounds? That's about $200 dollars US.

yeah if you wanna buy a supercharger, you're looking at more like $4000. BIG difference... but that would be SO nice... to bad i don't have $4 g's to throw around.

as stated above he cant use a chip drives a 96, go get a shark injector if you want to go that route. most say they cant feel a difference, but you can rev higher and top speed limiter is gone, which makes it worth it to me

oh yeah sorry, ok
conforti shark - turnermotorsport.com $350 and free 2nd day shipping
dinan(maybe just bavauto) shark - bavauto.com $360
again there are some other brands out there too
'93 325i' is right, if you have a 96 model you cannot use a 'chip'. the OBD1 uses a chip but the OBD2 (96-99) uses the shark injector.....other wise the two chips listed already would be great, but of the two my pick would by the conforti chip.
DO A SHARK INJECTOR! SAME AS A CHIP FOR THE OBD2 BIMMERS!
