My e-window express up does not work properly. I have to push and hold the up button for it to go up. It's very weird, the same problem on both doors. When i push the express up and let go of the button it goes exactly 1/3 of the way up and back down and if i hold it pass the 1/3 mark and let go of the button it goes back down after 2/3 of the way. No problems with express down button.

this problem isn't quite unique, its a very common prob for e36, my car does it too, except only on my drivers side. I don't know what causes it but im sure someone does. You sould try and do a search on the forum i bet you will find alot of info there

Yes.. something is obstructing.. and or putting strain on the motor... there is a limitation to how much strain may be put on the motor before it defaults to a safety feature.. meaning it rolls it self down... do a google search.. there is bound to be more information on this problem...
