I seem to have a rattle coming from under my car, I think it could be the exhaust system, does anyone know if this is a problem on the 3-series E36? or could it be something else.

Also if it is the exhaust system then I will probably change it for a Stainless Steel one - does anyone know of a good stainless steel system for the 328i Convertible - i need one which is available in england.

Cheers

I have a rattle too, it sounds like a chain being shook up in a tin can (yeah, bad sound but accurate description). However, it only happens when the tranny is in a gear and primarily around 1k, 2k, and 3k rpms on the dot, not in between. Given this, I don't think its exhaust ghead

I need to get it to a shop sometime soon...

I have the same type of rattle. Mine is the heat shield above the exhaust. about the middle of the car it is only held by to bolts. Unfortunatly the tabs the bolts gothrough are broken. You might check to see if you have the same problem.

Yea check the heat sheild around the catalytic converter, mine rattles only in gear, some tightening should do the trick.
