Type of Oil???

I know this is a noobie question but i always wondered what type of oil is best to run in my 98 328i. And whats so good about syntheic oil? And why is it better to use rather then non-synthetic oil?

yes, use synthetic, it will slow wearing on the interior of your engine and you won't have to change it quite as often. But don't switch from non-synthetic to synthetic in one change, first use a mid-grade oil for a while, then switch to synthetic. Or I was recently told, but I'm not sure on this, that you can switch straight to synthetic, drive it for a little under a thousand miles, then change it again to new synthetic

98 328i------SYNTHETIC---- is less likely to break down in its lubricating properties.
You can go much longer between oil changes with synthetic, narrowing the cause difference it and conventional oils because of frequency of oil changes.

Reduced oil changes is nice, but the real advantage, IMO, is drastically reduced engine wear!

I also use synthetic in the tranny and differential too!

Agreed! The reduced engine wear goes without saying. But you would be surprised that people who go to great lengths to pamper their cars hesitate when it comes to spending the extra $$$$$ on oil.

synthetic is raw... it survives longer and through more temperature ranges
