i have a 1992 bmw 325i and recently i put new bulbs in, and after working for 5 seconds they stopped working. replaced the bulbs and now my signals/flashers dont work.
any ideas?
so you put in new ones and they worked for a few seconds and stopped also? you might have a short which is causing your bulbs to fry right away, due to the juice not being constant, and then all of a sudden surging through and blowing your bulbs, or you could have broke a relay connection while you were changing them so many times, check all your wires!
Originally posted by Furious@Oct 4 2004, 01:48 AM could be the wrong bulbs, check again, and also make sure you put them in proper, lastly check the fuses.

i checked all the fuses, and there is one thing weird they do work as parking lights, like when me headlights are on, they turn on, but no flash. i made sure i got the european spec light bulbs and i even bought a new socket.

The first reply may be right it may be the relay , but this is controlled by two fuses these are in the fuse box under the bonnet on the left hand side their numbers are F34 = 15 amp and F 23 = 5Amps the relay is also in this box it’s number K16. I tried to paste the picture in for you but it didn't work mail me if you need further help
the bulbs should be dual element. parking emelemt and bliking element. if parking works sounds like a short on one of the connectors. like furious said check bulbs.
I'd also check voltages to see if any power is getting to the blinker element if so how much? that could also give you a good idea if there is a short or not.

i checked the fuses and they all look fine. where is this relay everyone is mentioning? i also replaced with new bulbs and still the same thing; the only work in the parking mode. i noticed that there are two types i think 1156 and 1157 one of them has two separate connections on the bottom and the other has just one big one. whats the diff? which one am i supposed to use. i tried both. ghead

just a thought - did you LOOK at the fuses to check them or check check um? sometimes ( know I've had it happen) a fuse looks perfect and it's gone bad

did i say change the bulbs?NO! i said check the voltages, bulbs (do they work in another bimmer do they look dead?) and connections. and explained the dual element/contact bulb because you asked. If you don't know how to check voltages or get the manual out and look for the location of the relay(s) or actualy do something other than ask more questions take it to thedealer or someone with a clue.

ok well #1 if you havn't already figured out that I DID try the bulbs and found out that they DO work, then read this carefully. i DID check the bulbs and they DO work elsewhere. #2 i didnt ask about an explanation about dual element because i already know what they are. and #3 i know where the relays are and i did take it to the dealer and i replaced the 98 dollar relay they said and it didnt work. ok. i was just wondering if there was another relay, and obviously you cant help because you dont know. thanks anyway
update
today i went in the fuse box and pretty much started replacing everything.... i notice one fuse was burnt that hadn't been before so i switched it with another fuse, and viola!
my signals work
