i have a 1996 e36 318i with the m44 engine im planning a turbo build with the m44 im new to bmw so any help would be nice,im going to use a holset
hx35 with an external waste gate i would like to keep it mass flow with stock ecu if thats possible and how much boost can the factory engine hold

8-11 should be safe...but if you are asking that, then i think you need to go read a lot more.

ive read that people have put 10 psi on the factory m44 with no problem but im more conserned with the injectors,ecu programing,timing

I have actually been up close and personal with an E34 525iSE (M50) with a Garret and a full flow 6 branch (Non Cat), simple remap and a rather fat head gasket (6mm) LOL...
198 bhp standard but threw it up to nearly 260 !!

If you are new to turbo than you should read Maximum Boost
This will get you or fine tune what you thought about turbo charging
The injectors have to be considered balanced with you turbo setup
the Tuning has to be done.
if you change the head gasket to a thicker one like .120 and .140 MLS
than you should go with at least ARP or a metric blue head studs
and if you do go thicker HG than make the gasket around the water pump and the profile gasket with gasket paper because the HG will raise the head. not unless you can get a thicker profile gasket kit. i could not find one, and my search engine skills need discipline.

go get 24# injectors
metric blues will work
stock HG, just a new one
source a turbo and a manifold
source your intercooler/piping

best enginemanagement is the MILLER WAR chip. it CAN controll boost too.

Thank y'all for ur help gotta put the build on hold car is in the body shop a kid in a delslow hit the front end so just tic tock then back to work
