I am having the worst time trying to find information on any search through these forums. Here is my problem. My trunk wont lock with the key or with the alarm system. It locked once and neither myself or my brother could figure out why or how.

Do I have to replace the whole locking mechanism? Where do I get one? Would I have to have a key made? Would this have to be done by the dealer?

See I want to put a sub and amp in the trunk- but the trunk won't lock. It will close, but even with the alarm on you can open and access the trunk. The alarm will of course go off- but if I'm somewhere where I can't hear it- then I'm screwed.

so when you put your key into the drivers or passenger side door the trunk wont lock along with the other doors? it could be a central locking issue... also if your key doesnt work to turn the locks and you have to rely on your clicker thing... get the key one fixed becuase that would be having an issue with your trunk... does your trunk close all the way?

The trunk closes all the way. The drivers side and passenger doors will lock all four doors with the key, just not the trunk. The trunk will not lock with the key. I use the alarm because its more convienent, but the lock- except the trunk- work with the key.

Isn't the button supposed to turn and go into the lid when it locks. It turns but won't stay in the lid when you push the key into the lock. Does that make sense?

yes it kind of makes sense... i dont usually look my trunk (well it looks when i lock my car from the drivers door... but i dont do it through the trunk...) nor do i unlock just my trunk through the key hole in back... i do know what you mean though and that seems pretty weird... i would just a)wait for someone else to help becuase i think its just a trunk lock that went (like a rellay there, or something) or the central locking.. but since the others work that doesnt make snse... or b)take it somewhere (like the stealership and have them look.. its stumping me.. get back to us i would like to know what the problem was!

No, the button doesn't go into the lid when the trunk is locked. It stays popped out.

Beyond that, I don't know what to say about your locking mechanism.

I believe each lock that can be locked remotely, either by key FOB or by push button inside the car has an actuator....look into replacing the trunk lock actuator...this might solve your problem....

like Ribemr says, its probably a lock actuator...Have you tried locking it with the button inside? That would be the final way to figure it out.

Also, the button doesn't go in, but when locked, you can press on it all you want and it won't unlatch the trunk. It will feel like it has no resistance behind it.

Turning the key to so that the slot is flat should lock the trunk. It stays out the same distance. If it doesn't lock, the linkage has probably come loose. There are plastic grommets that come out sometimes........

The trunk lock actuator is probably the culprit though...

Oh, and if the linkage comes off, and the trunk is locked, and you close the lid, you're screwed. Make sure during your repairs that the linkage is right before you close the trunk. If the trunk gets locked and the linkage comes loose, you'll have to drill behind the license plate to get it open.

The central unlock doesn't work from my trunk, but the central lock does. Is the actuator the culprit?

You could check the wires that run down the side of the trunk lid. I had this problem, so i looked at them, and about 4 wires had snapped off. I've heard that this is commen, so i would look there before paying for anything.

Ok, so I called to see how much an actuator would be, and they said about $60.

Is there anyway that I can get a diagram of how this works- a diagram online? I know I can do this!

One other quick question- could I replace this lock only with a generic lock- like say from a ford or chevy or something? I know I would have to use a seperate key- but if the lock was the same size- would it work??

Thanks for all your help!

Do a google search for the DIY...I can't find one for the trunk...Bentley probably has the instructions if anyone has one handy (mine is at home)...

As for the Ford or Chevy parts...I wouldn't....stick to OEM....assuming that the others would even work, which I think they wouldn't but I could be wrong...
