Transmission Problem

Hello there.

This is my first post for my 1992 bmw 325is and I am wondering if someone had the similar problem with the transmission that I am experiencing. I have an automatic transmission and when i put it on D and immideatlely accelerate the rpm goes up but there is no response for the car, couple of seconds later I hear a loud noice under the car and it starts moving forward. It seems to happen when the car is cold in the morning or when you stop hard and then accelerate quickly. If you take the time and brake at a normal speed or when you put in on D with the brake on, allow a couple of seconds then is fine. Any clues what the issue could be? The car has 90000 miles and last owner changed the tranny oil couple of years ago with 72323 with ATF Dexron 3. I noticed an oil leak which I originally tough it was motor oil but it has a redish colour to it. Last week I top the power steering fluid and there is a good chance i overfilled. I heard if you put too much then it will spit out the excess so i was thinking it was that but I still see this one drop on a daily basis and it has a redish colour to it and I remember the power steering was a little brown. Any advice?

tranny fluid is red in color your issue seems electric to me like the tranny module above the dme may be gone but im not sure it seems to work immtermitanly

well i found some great info at this site from another post on this forum. Pelican Parts - Porsche Parts & BMW Parts - Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche & BMW, the guy had the same issue seems to be the tranny fluid level. I am going to have that check tomorrow ASAP before it breaks on me then I will definetly get a heart attack. lol.

I talked with my cousin and he suggested to do oil and filter change on the tranny, replace the oil pan and he mentioned something about an eprom upgrade that has been done on these model of vehicle because it was noted to have some issues shifting gears in automatic transmission. Anyone has some more info on this?

i havent heard about any eprom what so ever on pelican parts there is a tranny fluid change diy do the filter and replace the gastkets good luck
