Transmission Fluid

Ok, I'm lazy and it's cold outside where my manual is. How much transmission fluid will I need. And how much differential fluid will I need? Thanks for the help. Also, if anyone has a link to changing the differential or transmission fluid please post it for me.

Are you planning to completely flush and refill your current system?

I would never touch the transmission fluid. It is not really recommended to change the tranny oil, unless something really wrong with it. Don't believe me, call lilltle car shop. They are highly recommended by the badger bimmers. 414-263-2500 is their phone, call and ask.

As far as the differential goes, I always thought they were sealed units. I could be wrong though.

Correct. BMW reccomneds not changing the tranny oil. You can do it on a manual without much issue, but I have heard some bad things about people who changed the auto's fluid.

I was just thinking about changing the tranny fuild on my 318i, manual tranny!!!!!
Thank god i read this before anything was done to my car,
So what brand should i use to change the differencial oil? Its a 97'

I am pretty sure, that Bmw differential units are sealed and you can't do anything about it. The only thing you do is to replace one, it it breaks down. I could be wrong. Give me till evening, I am going to make sure about it.

i do belive the fluids can be changed there was some info in bav auto flyer they seny me for the diff or trans fluid change...

There's a fill plug in the differential, I was just gonna syphon it out with a pump

As for tranny fluid, it's mostly for piece of mind because of the autocrossing.

Anyone think there would be conflicts with Redline Synthetic Dexron 4 ATF. It says it's for auto transmissions and it's also listed under the manual trannys.

For differential I was going for redline 75w 90. It's a synthetic gear lube, says it's for LSDs, seems good for me.
