Was racing a porche today and tranny light came on and wouldn't shift past third... and is acting weird... talked to my mechanic a month ago and he's gonna put in a new 5 speed for 2500 with a short shifter... I'll let you know how it works...]
EDIT
While you are at it, add the 6spd conversion from those guys {HERE}. They're good people. Not a cost effective option, but would certainly inrcrease driveability. I am awaiting info on them desinging me some software as I have delt with them before.
It is far higher than 5%... I'd say its almost more common to have an auto around here than not.
all the vans, suvs, the huge trucks (lifted) and middle aged women with sporty cars that can't drive stick. and stick makes it harder to eat, talk on the phone, smack the kids around in the back seat...

no, its not fake. That link takes you to an Autohaus in Indianapolis, IN. They are very good people (very highly regarded by techs all over the country) and have done a lot of work on my car. Look around the sight and you will find all kinds of fun projects from tranny conversions, induction conversions, etc. Check out their e30 ///M3 cab conversion, not for me, but it is cool due to its uniqueness.
ya its like converting the old tranny to the new one... sounds cool!
would make the car a lot easier to drive/downshit/etc and maybe a little faster to 60? faster top speed even?

You would think it would increase the top speed. It will definately accelerate faster. I love to drive 6 speeds. My brother's S2000 was 6 speed I think and it was a bat out of hell.
Actually, with a 6 speed most of the time you won't actually get a higher stop speed because of the drag factor on your car. Normally they just give you a closer ratio 1-2-3-4-5 gears and 6 is like an overdrive or cruising gear. Gives you more flexibility, but you'll probably have to shift more. But if you were lazy you'd want an auto

Well it's going to cost me a total of 2400 + tax get a 5 speed tranny with all conversion parts including differential and racing short shifter installed with a 18 month warranty from a local place which isn't too bad. I have a friend who is going to rebuild my broke tranny so if someone is in need of a rebuilt auto I'll sell it for cheap... I'll keep people informed when it's done...

What percentage of cars in the US and Canada have an auto gearbox? Here in the Netherlands I guess 5 % have it.
I saw data once that suggested 70% of cars in the US had automatic transmissions. It's at LEAST that; thinking of the people I know personally, over 90% of them have automatics.
