Tranny Problem

Driving today to get my brakes fixed and noticed that when my car shifts into third, there's a soft groaning sound and a hesitation almost as if something is pulling my car back. I took it to a local place here and they said to find a tranny expert. My question is, has anyone heard of this or have any ideas on what I should do?

I have a 95 325i 4dr automatic sedan...

I'd like to take this to a manual if possible...

98 323 IS 2 door
3rd gear slipps and dosn't engage untill I let off the gas and have the driveline put negitive torque to the transmission or I wait about 5 seconds when it stops slipping and locks into gear. I'm not sure, maybe my torque converter is just weird. I'm going to just live with it untill it becomes bad and get a manual put in instead.
