?? tranmission problems ??

so i'll get straight to the point. 1st gear =fine. 2nd gear = fine. 3rd is kinda hard to get into and some times grinds with the clutch in when downshifting... so... help...

i thought of that as well. i'm just worried i'll get locked out of 3rd some day. do you know if there is a definite to test the synchro short of dropping the tranny...?

You may just need to change some of the shifter linkage bushings. I would try that first -- about a $85 job in terms of parts if you get a new one of everything and 30 minutes (maybe a little more since it would be your first time) working under the car. Worth doing anyways.

my tranny did that for 1st and 3rd and I drove it around ok
o BTW sugest when you do the bushings get a short shifter big help!

also it seems it happens a lot more when, ie coasting down a hill and i push in the clutch and coast down a hill. when i need it in gear again, i push in the clutch and rev match into 3rd and it grinds. so... does that still sound like bushings or linkage or both...???

it is the synchros and may be a bearing? i would suggest a rebuilt. know how you feel being without some gears

Hmmm. Yeah. That last part makes me think maybe synchros (or bearings ). It may be time for a rebuild.... Or just grind third for a while, since you will be rebuilding it anyway

when you say bearings are you guys referring to the pilot and throwout? cuz those are brand spanking new, as of 8,000 ago. so hopefully just the synchros.
