My 96 328i's traction control light is on , meaning the system is off, and when i press the ASC button to turn it on it will not come back on. How can I turn it back on or is there a problem?

check next to the throttlebody that the wiring harness for your traction control is still plugged in, this happened to mine once, just plug it back in

if everything is plugged in right, try disconnecting your battery and then connecting it back in

Keep in mind, this will cause your head unit to go into security mode and refuse to work until you enter the security code.
Check your ABS sensors too if all else fails.

95% sure it is right on the throttle body... do you have a strut bar? there is a chance it knocked it off, if it isnt for cars with traction control
