timing chain tensioner

Has anyone on here had past experiences with thier timing chain tensioners going bad? I already replaced the lower tensioner because that is ussually the culprit but i think it may be the upper tensioner that is the problem. From about 2.5k rpm the engine sounds like a rattle err maybe the chain dragging on metal almost... (I it kind of guess sounds like a vanos sound but ussually people think the timing chain sound, is the vanos sound so im ruling that out as my car doesnt sound like a desiel....) The sound only comes under load while driving expecially in the low gears (pretty sure other sounds just block it out in high gears) and it also it evident if you shift and push in the clutch a little too soon in the shift.

that sound is usually associated with the vanos unit from my understanding, how many miles on the engine?

i dunno, dont know enough about these common M/S 50/52 engine problems yet...

heh only about 60k miles on the engine, but it's had a rough life... its got a slightly bent valve so i think i may just go ahead and do the entire head if im in there with the tensioner anyways... i just dont want to replace a perfectly good part, you know?

i just went on dr vano's website and looked at the videos of bad vanos' and my car sounds nothing like it. Thats why im thinking its something else?


ps. could your recent interest in m/s 50's and 52's possibly be a clue to your new engine?? PM me for secretive answer

no, mainly because most of my friends have M/S 50/52's factory in their cars and what not...thats all
