Does my 1998 328i have a timing belt or chain. Also whats the recommendation for replacement?

yeah whats the manufactor recomendation concerning whats the right time to change your timing chain (i mean miles wise)?

If you have a chain, there's no call to replace it. Different auto manufactures call for different belt replacement intervals between 60,000 and 90, 000 miles.

As far as determing if u have a chain or a belt with the aid of a service manual, on most cars, if you look at the front end of the engine and see a plastic cover on the side, it usually is a belt.
