Ticking noise

Hello everyone,

I have a 96 328 and there is a constant ticking noise that seems like it could be lifters but the ticking noise gets faster as the engine speed increases, you cant hear it when the hood is down but when working under the hood, its prominant and annoying. I wanna believe its the lifters but my car doesnt seem like it has as much power as it used to. The noise is coming from around the manifold by the head which causes me to believe it could be a faulty injector but the dealer wants like $100 a pop for each one and u know u cant just replace one. Has anyone had this problem and is it as serious as im making it or am i paranoid. I would appreciate the help.

Sicky lifter? Maybe you've got a stuck valve and it wore the camshaft down? It really just sounds like normal noise from the valves though.

Thats what i thought because i had a 93 325 and it was making the same kind of noise but what could account for the lack in power?

Maybe your vanos unit has gone out on you. Maybe someone else has some better insight.

I have a 93 325is- the clicking sound turned out to be detonation, If you have a cone Filter, it may be sucking in too much hot fan wash from the engine bay-
I cured my car of this by getting a CAI (the kind that goes down behind your headlamp and behind the front air dam), also my cat was plugged up which was making the engine run hot-

I was told the Air was too hot so it was thin and I was not getting a good combustion which caused the valves to "tick" but that was only when i was bogging it down a bit or going up hill in a low gear- also happened just when I was at a stop on flat ground. that was My cars solution, i hope it helps a bit
