Ticking noice when runing

this ticking noice started not to long ago i got my head redone and the car was runing fine i got a new exhaust system i also have long tube headers i heard that i might have a leak on the headers. how probable is for the hydrawlick lifters to go bad i have a 98 323is

the sound of a leaking exhaust gasket is differant than the sound of a bad lifter. easy way to tell though is to put a screwdriver to the valve cover and see if the ticking is louder

take it in and have the lifters adjusted.

how do you have the lifters adjuted?

the mechanics do it for you, i could have on mine but didn't want to attempt it. i know on e30's bmw reccomonds lifter adjustment every 60-75k miles, figured the same applied to some of the newer m50's as well.

may not be the problem, just a thought, i'm not an e36 guy lol.

arent e36 hydraulic lifters? how bad is the tick? You can add about 1/2 quart and it will go away, if that is your problem.
