heard that the throttle body can increase response, so im thinkin of either tuning it or getting the dinan one...has anyone experimented with this? if so, how hard is it to tune? or would i be better off getting the Dinan one...thanks.... |
Dinan doesn't make throttle bodies. What they do is take your existing one and bore it out to a larger diameter, then replace the butterfly plate with a larger one. There wouldn't be anything to tune really. You would have to increase the diameter of the intake ports and intake manifold then match the throttle body diameter to the manifold. Even that wouldn't do anything, you have to get the right cams to allow more air to flow through the whole system, otherwise you're wasting money on mods. Figure out what the bottleneck on your engine is. If it's airflow restriction (starving the engine), then you should consider those mods.
Typically, the larger plate is bored anywhere from 2-3.5mm. Dinan bores out the throttle bodies + 2.5mm (325) and 3mm (318). Just get a machine shop to do it for you and provide those specs.
I suspect a maximum addition of 2HP gain with an intake, if any gain at all. I wouldn't spend more than $200 on this modification. If you need someone to do it for you, my machine shop charges $150 flat rate for this process. Dinan charges $450 which is outrageous! It's a very simply process. Matching the butterfly plates can be tricky.
