hey guys as most of you know i am getting into the researching phase of buying either a 325 328 or possibly... m3 engine with a manual tranny.... With a typical engine that i would buy it would come with the engine and tranny right> but does that mean i have to buy all the ECU computer crap, or what? Also do i have to buy new exhuast to go with the 6 cylinder since mine is a 4 now, And with switching it to a manual tranny i would have to buy everything clutch setup etc to do that part of it. Can someone right up pretty much everything i would need that wouldnt come with the engine and tranny do make this project a succes!

You will have to replace a lot. I know you need to replace about everything connected to the engine that is not driveline related. That includes the whole exhaust, motor mounts, and intake. It also includes the software for the engine, which is by the way not crap.

I think a 328 or M3 engine could mate directly up to a 4 cylinder driveline. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. This is not saying that the tranny, driveshaft, and rear end are the same, because they're not. But, they would work.

However, if you are planning on switching to a manny tranny, you would want to switch out the whole driveline.

Search for this subject. There is some useful information.

your stock 1.8l tranny wouldnt hold up to that power. and also the diff is lower gearing so it would have tons of accel but no top speed. i dont know if your stock differntial will work with it. and also you need headers, cat, exhuast, ECU, raditor...etc

the diff that came with the 4cyl is different than the ones of the 6cyl, and the driveshaft is a different length as a result. For the least amount of headaches, buy a wrecked M3 and pull everything it has; that is, the engine, clutch, tranny, driveshaft, diff, ECU, radiator, suspension, and whatever else Im forgetting. It will cost less than buying each of the parts indiviualy, and when you're done you can sell off the remaining parts.
