Thieving Dealerships Again!

You may have read some earlier posts about my car kangarooing in 1st gear

I got so pissed off with it that I took her into a dealer to have a look

They ring me to say come back they have found the problem - I need a new throttle body and new 02 sensor

700 dollars (400 pounds) they want so I go away to get a better quote - when i get home I decide to have a proper look myself

Lo and fucking behold when I pull the rubber "boot" off that connects the throttle body and sensor there is a 3 inch split running along the bottom of it which couldnt be seen from the top

12 dollars and half an hour later later and I have a new boot and fitted it - my car is now back to normal and I saved 700 dollars

Someone tried to defend stealerships in an earlier post - I'm sure they aren't all bad but try and justify this daylight robbery - fuckers!

I agree, my car will never sniff a dealer either.
I'm new to this forum, but visit others, and have noticed from those forums (and from BM-owning friends), that the dealers' favourite when a car is in for a service is to say, "dics and pads are needed all round". This is a frequent occurrence on v low mileage car, and surely can't be justified ... but they still do it! .

try cleaning the throttle body or get a better one from someplace like oh say dinan.

02 sensor fairly easy.

Ben, thanks for the advice but I dont think you get the point.

The point is I dont need a new throttle body or sensor - they were trying to rip me off!

In fact I just got back in from a friends and the drive home was perfect again

700 for a fucking throttle body is WAYYY to much anyway, the dinan throttle body is 350..
