Two things i would like to point out, i brought it to this forum because i believe that the seller didnt know what model it was for, secondly what do you mean from Australia, you trying to say we arnt trustworthy???

Please dont sweat other people being jerks, back to the question, the item is not for an e36, at least not a 96-99 328i, I own two of them. The open space where the radio goes extends to far down toward the tranny shifter area, additionally, it cant be for a 328i is as there are not enough slots for the electric window switches. It is possible thet it may fit a newer 328 coupe or convertible or maybe even a 5 series???

that trim is for an e36. but because each car had different number of window swicthes and all, bmw made different parts.
that center part is the lower console trim, that goes around the trasmission selector and has the window swicthes around and the hazard. and then on the big opening you have the sunglasses holdr with the cigarrete ligther on the bottom and the seat heater siwchts in case your car has them. then on top of the sunglasses hoder goes the OBC, on board computer.
That specific trim on ebay is for a 4 door model car, since the side opening for the windows swicthes are long. dont forget there is a small plastic trim that goes aroung the swicthes and that trim holds the swicthes on the trim//
if possible look under BMW ETK software to see the different center consoles bmw had/
have a good one.
