Are there problems with these sized wheels??

My mate just got an E36 and has bought new rims with 225/40/18 tyres and he has been told these can damage the car and can snap or break off causing mega damage n

Has anyone heard anything like this??

No, that is not the case. There are a few guys on this site who have a similar set up, and i'm sure they will chime in when they see this to explain further.

I have 17's with big rubber and have PLENTY of room for more.

BTW, I might add stiffer springs, just to prevent excessive travel resulting in rubbage.

I have pretty much the same exact thing. I wouldn't worry about anything like that happening. Unless your rims are made of pot metal, you should be just fine. Watch out for the pot holes though..........

So any ideas why he was warned about these wheels cos he's quite worried about it. What COULD the problem be?

i have the e46 m3 rims, 18's, with 225/40/18 kumho ecsta supra 712 tires... they fit and work great! no problems at all!
