Temperature Guage Doesnt Seem To Be Working?

Just bought a 1993 325i the other day. I just noticed that the temperature guage doesnt seem to be working right.
When i turn the car on it goes up to slightly past he half way mark. The same thing happened after the car had been sitting for about 2 hours.

I havent tried it yet when the car is completely cold as i havent had a chance yet.

I used the search but couldnt find anything about this.

Seems like its not working right to me. Could it just be a bad temperature sensor?

Any help would be great.

there should be a warm-up time from the first start.. It should take a few minutes to get from cold to normal operating temp on the gauge. With my car (same year & model) a 2 hour sit wont make the gauge go down that much..And the normal reading should be a "tick" past half way.. You can always perform the gauge test but i dont think it would do any good if it were the sensor..

could be a temp sensor or you could actually have a cooling system problem. let us know what you find once the car sits for a good period of time
