Tell engines apart

I was wondering if anyone knew how to tell an M52 apart from an S52? Say that the motor has everything there except for the plastic M power covers.

thanks

Get in the car... and floor it. You'll know instantly.

I'd start by looking at the MAF, the m3's motor uses a considerably diffrent one than the m50TU

Im trying to differentiate between an M52, and an S52, and the motor is not in the car.

There is one main thing that set them apart: The oil filter housing are different, the S52 it does not use a plastic oil housing cap like the M52 motors, instead it uses a 13mm threaded bolt that goes through a metal lid that holds it to the housing.

Sort of like the M50 ones? It looked the same as my 325's one pretty much. Thanks
