LIke is it really bad if I push my auto bmw to like 6k well whatever it redlines at, Im pretty sure it's 6k

obviously I dont do this all the time
but is this like a super big no no?


Cumon you guys know you do it to?

redlines at 5800k its not a big deal if u do it every so often... just don't do it to every gear.. cuz u can mess up a valve! then repairs get very exspensive!

What kind of valve will you mess up?

They only way to damage valves in the engine is by over reving. That would be vary unusual with an automatic. Even in a manual it will only happen if you blow a shift by downshifting instead of upshifting.

I suppose if the auto tranny grenaded anything could happen. The computer won't let it over rev normally.

I do it quite frequently in my auto. I cruise at 3-3500 rpm 85 miles a day and frequently rev to at least 5k rpm, and once or twice a day to redline.

My only advise would be don't tach out the engine until its fully warmed up.
