Hey everyone, this is my first post on here and its great to be here, I just bought a 96 318i two weeks ago and im having a problem with the tail lights.. when i turn on my lights on the driver side light, the buld on the far outside is on and on the passenger side light the bulb in the middle is on. So i thought that someone just maybe put the bulb back in the wrong spot. so i took the lights out and now the bulbs are totally differnt ones really small and the others bigger( the one that does the light and brakes) so now my question is.. why doesnt the little one light up like on the other side. it seems that some wireing on the harness mite be messed up cause its all spliced together, but i have no diagram, can anyone help me out please , i need the wireing diagram for the drivers side tail light..

Well, that's really really confusing to read... but the problem sounds confusing as well. Where did you buy your car from? If it's a dealership, they probably gave you some kinda warranty, right? If it's a private party, they should have (of course, people suck this way) told you about the problem. Either way, contact the person/place where you got the car, it will probably shed some light on what's goin on and what to do about it.
So... are you talking about your interior lights? If the wrong light comes on for the wrong switch, it wouldn't be the bulbs, it would be something going on with the wiring, like u said.... I'm probably misunderstanding what you're trying to say. If your tail light simply isn't working, there's a good chance it's fixable... sans any work with the wiring. The E36 is famous for stuff like that.
Either way, do NOT fix this problem yourself!!! If you fuck up, you're screwed. If you do anything to it, you can't prove that you didn't fuck it up yourself.

Thanks for the input, Its the driver side tail light, brake lights dont come on, only the DRL's I took the light apart and the wireing's all messed up, I think I mite just need a new harness for the lights..
Sounds like someone just put the wrong bulb/ire intot he wrong hole. Just swap (on drivers side) your outer and inner. Your inner bulbs should be your parking lights and your outer should be your brake lights.
