Sunglasses compartment heating up

For the past week or so my Sunglass Compartment has been heating up a lot, I think the temperature is atleast 55-60 C. Is this normal? Its cool at start as the cars engine warms up the compartment starts heating up also. Also the 'pop-out hole' in the temperature gauge (computer) is also quite hot. Any reasons for this.

BTW I have a 1996 318i.

Mine has always been quite hot. I have had teh car for two years and haven't had any problems related to tat heat.

same with mine, of course your transmission is quite close to that part of the floor, mine is quite hot as well, but have always kinda just played it off.

Normal. Heat is coming from transmission.
