Subframe failure

Ok, so I read about this a few times but how common is it?
Is there a certain model year that it happens to?
How can you check for it?

subframe failure? The only problem I know about is that the rear shock tower mounts tend to tear on higher mileage cars, but that's it.

my 92 325i subframe failed about 4 months ago. I had it fixed it cost around $2800 luckily my aunt payed for it. My mechanic said its not uncommon for this to occur in this year especially in the cars with higher miles or ones that live in regions were they salt the roads due to snow and cars who's drivers drive too fast up mountain roads. That was my problem, I live on a crazy messed up mountain road. plus i used to considered speed bumps ramps on my road luckily i grew out of that.

Well I took a good look under my car and everything looked OK.
I'm crossing my fingers.

I've had a subframe bushing rot out... got a loud clank in the rear passanger side of my car.... few hundred bucks in labor at the dealership

Its a common problem from 1992-1994 e36's. Usually most people wont experience it unless they do a look of autox, tracking, or a LOT of "spirited driving."

Get a good shop and add in a reiforcement plate. I think bavauto.com has it.

Well, my car is a 96 and I don't drive it really hard. It's also got the stock suspension on 16" wheels. Hopefully the odds are in my favour.

acutally im pretty scared to check mine i think i might have torn mine. but i wont know untill next year when i bring the car out again

If you got the 95+ youll be fine. They should alreayd have the reinforcement plates in them from factory.

YAY! just got word from the mechanic, my subframe is fine... MY FRAME IS CRACKED!!!!!!!!
