Don't know about a direct bolt in, but with the right amount of money, anything like that can be done. However, I can't imagine it being that hard of a swap. At least its not putting a 451 big block in to it. I read in a Sport Compact Car magazine about a Hyundai Tiburon that had two separate 150 hp 4cyl DOHC tiburon engines mounted; one on each axel. Each one had its own independant Auto tranny. This thing had no mods on it and it ran 10s in the quarter.

Yep, a Euro M3 (286 HP<'96<321 HP)[/b][/quote]
Definately the best choice there is if you are going E36. It's the same one I got and my swap is almost complete. I am doing the swap all by myself and it is actually easier than any engine that I have worked with. Pretty much direct bolt in. I just can't wait to drive this beast. Should be done this afternoon and the pics will be plentiful.
For under $5K, you can go with a strong used M52 2.8L convert it to OBDI, chip it, add a CAI, and you have 250-260hp. The engine is virtually plug and play (save relocating a few things like the fuel pressure regulator and stuff) and you have to do no modding of engine mounts or electical rewiring. I did, and when all is said and done, I will have all the power I need...
wait what?
$5k?
installed?
chip?
cai?
250hp?
huh?
i think the 250-60 hp is a little high... because most tests from cai and exhaust systems have the chip already installed...meaning your double adding the chip and or intake/exhaust
but hopefully i am wrong because 260hp + newer engine for $6000 total is very very interesting...
what does the 328 push hp wise? .3 litres more than the 180hp 325 hmmm...?

Did you install a Euro version or a US one? What did you change and what where your costs? I'm looking forward to your pics!

That is what i have been trying to tell everyone for some time!!!
Stock M52 2.8L=190hp/206ftlbs. tq
+OBDI conversion=216hp/220ftlbs. tq
+chip=241hp/232ftlbs. tq
+CAI=247hp/233ftlbs. tq.
These numbers are estimated, but certainly not unreasonable. I have also added a better breathing exhuast and after installation of software and what not, I will redyno and post, give me some time, and I will relay this info.
Everyone is so big on the ///M3 conversion, and its cool, but my way is a lot more affordable and just as rewarding IMO.
maybe you can explain this in more detail?
because i know (think rather) that my car uses obd 1 ???
so if i threw in a 328 engine in there with some mods would i be flyin?
i also like how you added 6 hp for the air intake
that is way more feasable than 20 which what i thought you were figuring in
hmmm
and all this can be done for how much ??
