strut mounts

Ok so I have had my car for about a week now and the guy I bought it from said it had all new suspension under it, and had the paper work from a BMW dealer to show that it was done. But what is surprisingly funny that they didn't replace the rear strut mounts well needless to say they were bad, when a few days ago it started clunking pretty bad. So I went up to the nearest BMW dealer ship spent $60 bucks and got new ones. Here what the old ones looked like when I took them out

Dirty Martini is on a distinguished road
I'm sorry to hear and see that. The rubber on my right one punched out like that while I had my convertible top down and the top of the shock poked a hole in my plastic rear window (the shock mounts are in the compartment where the top stows down). My parts guy (after selling me a new rear window) suggested m3 shock mounts as a better built replacement so I put those on.

ya unfortunately i'ma be in the market for a whole new suspension and reinforcement system here in the near future... how much does it improve the ride quality and can you give me details? I'm trying to convince myself on how furiously I should save for these improvements =)

Well depending on how old the suspension it would make a great difference on the ride quality. As far as the strut mounts I don't think made much of a difference in the ride they just keep the strut from moving around I changed mine due to the clunking around they were doing.
I paid $28 a piece for oem strut mounts I know when I had went to the dealer they said there were 2 different ones I am assuming the other ones they had for $40 a piece were the M3 ones.

As far as how much you should save depends on the type of suspension you want and ride. A more of a racing type where your ride will be alot stiffer or stock where it is some what stiff but still is a comfortable ride going down the highway.

Also another thing to consider is if your suspension is realy bad it will make for poor brakeing do to the car leaning so much to stop also when I had my 318is when I would realy get on it going through the gears it was a little harder getting going cause the car was bouncing up and down all over the place. you hate spending the kind of money it cost for good suspension but it well worth it in the end.
