Strange engine noise

I own a stock E36 94 318i, it is now making a strange noise like a jet engine when accelerating over 2000 RPM. This has developed over the last 4 - 5 weeks. Does any one have any ideas?

can you localize the noise? does it do it in every gear?

When you say like a jet, do you mean a whistle and more of a roar?

sorry for not enough information, the noise is similar to a whistle, mileage is 245000kms, but am not able to localise any more as it only appears when in gear and accelerating through all gears

hey bemmer46 sounds like u have an air leak somewhere can but tricky to find, but ill show u a trick. bye a bottle or two of carb cleaner or brake clean spray cans, turn on the engine like it idle, then start spraying around the engine , like around any air hoses, throttle body , around the intake, now what u looking for is to hear the idle drop all of a sudden, when u do try it again ,se where u spray when the idle drops, and find ur air leak... ok, good luck..

^ just so you know my 635 actually revved up and didnt drop when i tryed this....
